About the city

Samara is the capital city of Samara region located in the Southeast of the European part of Russia and in the middle reaches of the Volga River.

The population is just over 1 million. Samara experiences a humid continental climate, the average temperature in July is about +27.6 degrees Celsius, in January is -13.8 degrees Celsius. 

The city, which is the capital of the region, is situated on the left bank of Volga river at the bend of river Sok and river Samara creeks and the Samarskaya Luka national park. The city is approximately 50 km long and 20 km wide.

Besides Samarskaya Luka, the local nature boasts Zhigulevskie hills, Buzuluk pine forests and breathtaking landscape reserves such as Sergievskie mineral waters, Vasilievskie islands. The premier tourist spot is still the Volga river.
